Organizational Overview

Founded in 1957 as a cooperative, HealthPartners is an integrated health care organization providing health care services and health plan financing and administration. It’s the largest consumer-governed non-profit healthcare organization in the nation – serving more than 1.5 million medical and dental health plan members nationwide.

Our care system includes a multi-specialty group practice of more than 1,700 physicians that serves more than 1.2 million patients. Residency Overview

The program will provide the resident with experiences in pharmacy benefit management, evaluation of pharmacy utilization data, drug information, participation in P&T Committee functions, completion of a residency project, education of patients and healthcare professionals, participation in journal club, a seminar presentation, and chronic care activities in the Medication Therapy Management (MTM) program at one of HealthPartners Medical Group clinics. Elective rotations can be arranged based on the resident’s interests.

During the residency program you can expect to:

Participate in the design or redesign of disease management and/or medication therapy management programs for patient populations.

Contribute to the ongoing development of the managed care organization’s formularies.

Understand the interrelationship of the pharmacy benefit management company, the health plan, the employer group, and the delivery system functions of managed care.

Recognize how the managed care organization contracts with community pharmacies to form effective networks to fulfill the drug therapy needs of members.

Be aware of the organization’s process for contracting with pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Exercise practice leadership.

Provide, document, and bill for medication therapy management services delivered in an outpatient setting.

Contact the Residency Program Director if you have any questions about the program or the application process.

Applicant must submit an application via the PhORCAS system.

Application material includes Curriculum Vitae, College of Pharmacy Transcripts, three Letters of Recommendation, as well as a Cover Letter describing career goals and reasons for applying to the Managed Care Residency Program.

All application materials must be received by the specified deadline.
